I believe that we are entering a pivotal point in the development of digital design. Up to this point, designers were limited to what was technologically possible and by trying to apply metaphors from previous media to digital media (i/e web pages, files, folders). But now, with the emergence of newer technologies and techniques, designers can break free and develop more appropriate paradigms for digital design.
This is a very exciting time to be a designer!
